Bush immigration plan draws mixed reviews across Kansas
President Bush proposed rotating 6000 National Guard troops to aid border security, backed a guest worker program and a path to citizenship. While some Republicans praised the plan as a step forward, critics warned that enforcement alone won t fix an out of touch system. Kansas lawmakers split with Brownback backing enforcement and Roberts favoring border security first. U.S. Rep Ryun called it a good first step and supported a guest worker plan after border enforcement. Kansas Guard details were not yet released and divisions appeared among GOP lawmakers and border representatives.
