Stauffer Grant at KU Awarded for First Time
Dona Lee Seacat, a 1954 Emporia High School graduate and KU sophomore, received the first Stauffer journalism scholarship from Mr. and Mrs. Stauffer. The $200 award supports the 1956-57 KU school year as she plans to enter KU’s School of Journalism. High School Boy Dies After Hayrack Fall
Fifteen year old Freddy Gale Bowman freshman at Chase County High School Cottonwood Falls died in an Emporia hospital after falling from a hayrack during a school picnic. He was among 60 FFA and FHA students riding two hayracks behind a tractor when the wagon veered on a hill five miles south of Cottonwood Falls. Bowman fell on his head and was run over by a rear wheel.
