The Southwestern Bell Telephone strike settled with a weekly wage increase of about 4.42 for non supervisory workers. Full service delays remained as picket lines by Western Electric workers were withdrawn and area by area returned to work. Kansas Oklahoma Missouri Arkansas and a portion of Illinois were affected with gradual restorations and wage terms to be finalized in a drawn up agreement.

President's Absence Delays Signing Greek Turkish Aid
Washington May 27 President Truman’s absence from Washington to care for his ill mother in Grandview Missouri will delay signing the 400 060 000 Greek Turkish relief bill. Ayers said the plan to sign Monday or Tuesday is postponed pending Mrs Truman’s illness outcome. Congress approved the measure Thursday and Truman has 10 days to sign.

State rests case as defense seeks acquittals in lynching trial

The battleship Oklahoma, refloated and under tow from Pearl Harbor to Oakland for scrapping, sank 40 miles off Honolulu at 4 35 am Pacific Standard Time. No crew were aboard. Tow was by Hercules with Moore Drydock, following Coast Guard reports and previous salvage orders.

Thefts Averted at Osage County Courthouse Shootout
Lyndon May 17 Osage county officers killed one man and captured two others after they tried to remove confiscated liquor from the county courthouse. Sheriff William Gray identified the slain man as R. I. Day of Council Bluffs Iowa who faced assault charges. The three suspects, Clyde Jackson and Robert L. White of Enid Oklahoma and Day, were reportedly planning to steal a truck and liquor when officers called for surrender. Gray said Day died within minutes, while Jackson and White surrendered about 20 minutes later. About 30 cases of liquor were found piled outside the jail window. County Attorney Paul Wilson planned burglary charges against Jackson and White.
