Trump administration seeks end to lesser prairie chicken protections
Kansas Reflector reports the Trump administration filed May 7 to roll back protections for the lesser prairie chicken. It challenges a Biden era listing, arguing the Fish and Wildlife Service erred in split populations and policy applications. The bird spans Colorado to Texas, with endangered status in New Mexico and Southwest Texas and threatened status in northern ranges. Experts view it as an indicator of grassland health amid cattle grazing and energy development. Efforts to delist by Marshall Mann and others have stalled in Congress.
