Baldwin Eudora candidates file for city and school posts
Incumbent Eudora school board member Joseph Hurla filed for another four-year term as did Baldwin City hopeful Susan Pitts for one of two at large council seats. Filing closes June 1 as towns in Douglas County prep for August primaries and November general elections. Hurla cites expanding early childhood programs and district growth as key issues while noting no set platform beyond continuing current progress.

Governor signs law creating public benefit corporations in Kansas
Governor Sam Brownback signed a package of bills, including a measure to create a new class of for profit corporations in Kansas called public benefit corporations. These entities may charter social aims while remaining profit driven, shielding officers from shareholder lawsuits when pursuing public benefits. The law also amends the Kansas Open Records Act to redact juror addresses.
