Lawrenc e lawmakers seek tax relief as budget gap widens
Lawrence lawmakers say little they can do for now as the 89th day of a 90 day session passes without a plan to close a 406 million budget gap. Democrats and one moderate Republican critique tax plans, urging rollback of 2012 13 income tax cuts and exploration of revising taxes, while conservatives push toward consumption taxes. The impasse leaves the state running past June 30 without a balanced budget and lawmakers caution the process will be difficult.
