Lawrence airport marks 80th anniversary with events and rides
Lawrence Municipal Airport hosts an all day 80th anniversary on the grounds north of the Kansas Tube with displays and a ceremonial flyover. Weather delays cancel a 7 am hot air balloon launch. Activities include RC plane drops at 8 30 am, a paper airplane contest, Hawkeye helicopter tours, model airplane demos, and a Wings for Wishes fundraiser with 15 local pilots offering rides for 40 dollars and Beech Staggerwing rides for 120 dollars to benefit Make a Wish. Proceeds from pancake feed go to Make a Wish as well.
