Turkish adventure shapes Free State senior’s postgrad plans
FSHS senior Free State High School student pursued a midlife shift through a year in Izmir Turkey as an exchange student. He grew fluent in Turkish, found inspiration in Anatolian pottery, and plans to study after graduation. His father Robert Blum’s Bosnia research and family ties influenced his global outlook. He aims to return to Avanos to study pottery with Galip Korukchu while learning balama and sailing.
