Family Grows to 12 In a 10-Year Period
Vernon and Mary Shafer of Springfield Illinois expanded their brood to twelve children all under ten years old by last month, adding twin girls Susan and Sally to a family that began with five years of marriage and five previous sets of twins. The couple, ages 43 and 37, juggle day jobs and nightly chores in a four bedroom home, with Shafer assisting in house duties and four older children aged 3 to 9. They acknowledge the family exceeds their hopes yet express pride and happiness.
