On May 11, two weeks into operations on Jolo Island units under General Leonard Wood pursued the Moros led by an outlaw chief named Pala. Seven were killed and sixteen wounded as Pala and followers were cornered in a swamp by Vener Woer’s force.
Topeka May 15 Leren Myers a two year old child died in Highland Kansas after he toppled into a twelve gallon water jar while playing in the yard. He reached for a call at the bottom slipped and fell head first into the jar drowning himself.
Alva Smith of Denison Virginia suffered the loss of an arm in a dynamite blast while felling a stream for fish. He was visiting his father in Caddo when one stick exploded in his hand during the attempt. The accident occurred May 15. Chi Orchestra and Quartet will perform at Fraternal Aid hall on Friday and Saturday the 26th and 27th for the May Music Festival.
Chicago May 15 Influences on the teamsters joint council to halt the general strike movement are expected to bear fruit at a council meeting tonight. Reports say the International Brotherhood of Teamsters may meet tomorrow and that ice wagon drivers have accepted last year’s wage schedule, with many strikers seeking household jobs to steady contracts.
Two groups of about 300 foreign delegates visit major U S cities on touring itineraries after the international railway congress. One party will reach New York on May 23 after stops including Altoona Pittsburgh Cleveland Buffalo Niagara Falls Schenectady and Geneva. The other group arrives in New York on May 28 visiting Altoona Pittsburgh Cincinnati St Louis Chicago Niagara Montreal Saratoga Schenectady and Albany. Delegates travel as guests of the American Railway Association.
A giant leatherback sea turtle weighing 600 to 700 pounds was hauled from Roaring Point at the mouth of the Nanticoke River this morning. The creature measured just over six feet in length and carried Nippers exceeding three feet from tip to tip, stunning Hartimore residents.
Warnings issued for high water include Ohio River at Cincinnati reaching forty nine to fifty feet. Danger line stages anticipated on the Brazos and Trinity rivers and the Wabash at Mount Carmel. Residents warned to monitor conditions and take precautions as crests approach.
Topeka May 15 Only two candidates have announced themselves for department commander of the Ianas G. A. E. They are Colonel Grierson of Parsons and H. H. Carr of Wichita. The encampment will be held at Parsons beginning one week from Monday.
Four small tornadoes touched eastern Kansas Saturday afternoon causing property damage across Alta Vista Volland Alma and Valley Falls. A railroad crew was driven into a culvert near the Rock Island line while several barns and trees were wrecked. No fatalities reported though injuries occurred near Lindseyvor g and McPherson County. Damage from two later twisters near Valley Falls and a Lindsborg storm was limited to homes and outbuildings.
A westbound Santa Fe passenger train No. 17 was ditched by wreckers one mile east of Emporia on Sunday morning. Six passengers were injured, maybe mortally, with four reported missing. The incident follows repeated attempts to wreck Santa Fe trains, suggesting a revenge motive.

In Udall near Winteld William Buchels age ninety and his blind wife aged eighty five Germans living at a station were burned to death when a lamp exploded starting the fire. In Basett Kansas a jury found James Frederickson not guilty in the shooting of Richard Bales a negro during a marshal arrest at a cement works Lang assaulted and resisted as Frederickson fired twice. An international arts congress committee under Venues in September appoints American reps Prephard Brenson of Florence and Lord Taft of Chicago.

Somerville New Jersey May 15 George Wood’s attorney plans a queer plea arguing dual personality and that his better self knew nothing of the crime. The murder of George Williams occurred last winter when Williams, a Watchung storekeeper, was shot while en route to drive a stranger to a farm. Wood, arrested and identified, claimed a three day mental blank. Separately in Little Rock Arkansas General Thomas J Churchill ex governor of Arkansas dies after long illness.

In San Diego on May 15 a lone gunman wounded and killed four people in a spree driven by liquor. W. P. Robinson used a rifle and knife to murder Emma Stewart’s son William, Harry Doddridge’s father, H. W. Chase, and W. P. Robinson then killed himself after wounding Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. Doddridge. The shootings disrupted Fourth Street as police and residents watched a manhunt unfold amid a thunderstorm and gathering darkness.
