On May 11, two weeks into operations on Jolo Island units under General Leonard Wood pursued the Moros led by an outlaw chief named Pala. Seven were killed and sixteen wounded as Pala and followers were cornered in a swamp by Vener Woer’s force.

Topeka May 15 Leren Myers a two year old child died in Highland Kansas after he toppled into a twelve gallon water jar while playing in the yard. He reached for a call at the bottom slipped and fell head first into the jar drowning himself.

Dynamite Accident Blasts Arm of Denison Youth

Alva Smith of Denison Virginia suffered the loss of an arm in a dynamite blast while felling a stream for fish. He was visiting his father in Caddo when one stick exploded in his hand during the attempt. The accident occurred May 15. Chi Orchestra and Quartet will perform at Fraternal Aid hall on Friday and Saturday the 26th and 27th for the May Music Festival.

Foreign delegates tour the United States after railway congress

Two groups of about 300 foreign delegates visit major U S cities on touring itineraries after the international railway congress. Four small tornadoes touched eastern Kansas Saturday afternoon causing property damage across Alta Vista Volland Alma and Valley Falls. A railroad crew was driven into a culvert near the Rock Island line while several barns and trees were wrecked. No fatalities reported though injuries occurred near Lindseyvor g and McPherson County. Damage from two later twisters near Valley Falls and a Lindsborg storm was limited to homes and outbuildings.

Wreck of Santa Fe Express Near Emporia Injures Several

A westbound Santa Fe passenger train No. 17 was ditched by wreckers one mile east of Emporia on Sunday morning. Six passengers were injured, maybe mortally, with four reported missing. The incident follows repeated attempts to wreck Santa Fe trains, suggesting a revenge motive.

Crazed by Whiskey Killings in San Diego

In San Diego on May 15 a lone gunman wounded and killed four people in a spree driven by liquor. W. P. Robinson used a rifle and knife to murder Emma Stewart’s son William, Harry Doddridge’s father, H. W. Chase, and W. P. Robinson then killed himself after wounding Mrs. Stewart and Mrs. Doddridge. The shootings disrupted Fourth Street as police and residents watched a manhunt unfold amid a thunderstorm and gathering darkness.
