City weighs half-mill tax for sidewalks and bike paths
Lawrence City Commission weighs a half-mill property tax increase in 2015 to fund bicycle paths, sidewalk repairs, and related projects. If approved, the funding could raise about $450,000 next year and help leverage grants for non motorized transportation network expansion. A $150,000 home would see about $8.60 extra yearly. A large crowd backed more bicycle funding at City Hall. Michael Almond of Sustainability Action Network urged support.
