Hayden resigns as Lawrence Schools superintendent

Kyle Hayden will resign as Lawrence Public Schools superintendent after less than a year. He will stay with the district as chief operations officer pending school board approval. The board plans a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to discuss an interim replacement with a February 2018 fill target. Hayden’s resignation takes effect July 1. appointed March 2016, he earned $205,000.

KU Studio 804 builds efficient solar house in Lawrence

University of Kansas architecture students design and sell a passive solar home at 1330 Brook St in eastern Lawrence. The three bedroom two bath house uses repurposed materials, fits a small lot, and emphasizes accessibility and storage. Public tours run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

Kansas panel boosts funding for at risk students

A House committee advanced a school funding bill with higher aid for students at risk of failing or dropping out. Representative Melissa Rooker pushed an amendment raising the free meals weighting to 48.4 percent of base funding, setting the per pupil amount at 4006 dollars for 2017 2018, though the panel postponed a full House vote to next week.
