Kansas State University President Jon Wefald announced plans to retire at end of next academic year. He, 70, has led Manhattan campus since 1986, overseeing enrollment growth from 16,000 to 23,000 and a major fundraising drive. Board of Regents will discuss replacement, possibly forming a nationwide search. Kansas State, a Big 12 member, has been active in national bio defense site considerations.
