President Ford urged Congress to enact four year regulatory reform to untangle 40 years of red tape and reduce government overreach. He called for a comprehensive review across sectors with four goals to protect choice, cut costs, serve the public interest, and ensure fair enforcement.
Former Georgia governor and presidential hopeful Jimmy Carter calls at United Nations hearings for a five year global moratorium on all nuclear tests and a World Energy Conference. He pushes centralized multinational enrichment and a multinational reprocessing facility under IAEA and warns delay raises spread of nuclear capability.
Vice President Rockefeller toured the quake zone in Osoppo and Aviano, meeting survivors in pouring rain.
