Toneka May 13 The state supreme court granted a temporary injunction against removing county records or property from Santa Fe county seat of Haskell in a case tied to the May 15 election. The order preserves county assets and records at the seat pending further rulings.
Judge C A Smart refused to hear Val Blatz brewing company suit against Henry Gerhardt for 24.80 over eighteen beers delivered before the Done Dry law. He stated he would not allow saloon cases to be tried or jurors to hear such matters in his court. Several other civil actions proceeded, including R B Gorrill winning 618 for hay price disputes and a $5,000 damages claim by Anna Irene Colpton against Thomas Trotter, linked to a 21 year old runaway horse incident.
Three Mexicans arrested last night and held in the city jail are said to have entered and robbed two houses Sunday night. Gonzalez was spotted trying alley bars near the Newmark store. Renaldo Floses, cited for trespass and Bone Dry violation, paid a $100 fine and 30 days in jail. The trio, all from Kansas City, eyed by officers as possible participants in the Sunday robberies.

The Y W C A organization extension fund drive closed Saturday night with a total of 322.00 more than Lawrence's $200 quota. Mrs A G Alrich led the effort and offered a fountain pen to the top seller. Mary Melton sold $41 worth of tags and won the pen, followed by Thelma Shafer with $38.
George Henry a minor by Howard Henry filed suit in district court against International Indemnity Company of California seeking $900 for a Dodge car destroyed by fire on March 9. A company representative offered $462.50 by check, which Henry refused to accept.
Lone Star school district residents petition for a new high school including 57 sections of land valued at about two million dollars. The planned modern building would feature an auditorium gymnasium domestic science rooms and laboratories. Currently students attend Baldwin Overbrook and Lawrence schools.
Eight year old Gene Lamb asked for help finding his blue Yorkshire terrier Peggy. Journal World learned Peggy had been brought to KU medical school dissecting room Saturday and subjected to an operation by student doctors. The dog died despite the procedure. Peggy was a war souvenir brought from England by a British captain and given to Gene in Nitro, Virginia last summer.
University Senate on March 6 1917 ordered all degree candidates to be present for class day and commencement. Luther Hangen notes the rule resumes after war-time suspension and applies this year for in person diploma receipt unless excused by the chancellor on dean’s recommendation.

Lieut. Lloyd O. Beaton, the only Baldwin youth to die in the war, was twice cited for bravery. A report to his parents says on August 4, 1918 near Filmes he helped establish telephone links directing machine gun fire and aided an officer to the aid station. On August 30 near Juvigny he stayed to remove equipment as others withdrew.

City commission deferred the decision on curb and cinder paving for the east side of South Park to county officials. Property owners adjoining the east side unanimously offered to fund curbing at eighty five cents per front foot and cover their share of the work. If the county approves sharing the cost, the contract for curbing will be let at or below eighty five cents per front foot with pro rata rebates if bids come in lower. If not, a new petition for east and south park work must be signed.
Four helmets seized from German forces are donated to the Boy Scouts in recognition of their efforts during the Victory Drive. The items, housed by the Pierce Music Bureau, were presented as a symbolic acknowledgment of youth service and wartime support.
