The American Red Cross released a statement on the war fund as of April 15, 1917. An appeal in June 1917 raised more than 5 00,000, with 100,000 subscriptions in a week. Total funds, including interest, reached 110,134,360 for war relief, with a large portion already allocated and remaining balances forecast to be allocated by June 2.

Paul Douglas suffered broken ribs and a fractured collar bone in a car overturn west of Lawrence near the Country Club grounds.
