Francis Jaedicke badly burned in a gas vault explosion at the Jaedicke hardware store on Mass street. He entered the vault to fetch books when a gas leak ignited a light, causing an explosion. He was taken home for treatment after his wounds were dressed.

State deputy food inspector John Ice cited grocers for selling strawberries in boxes not meeting a quart capacity and lacking proper labeling. He warned arrests may follow if conditions aren’t fixed by Tuesday, and he pushed for cleaner kitchens in local restaurants. Government inspectors praised or pressured venues on cleanliness and fair measures while noting Abilene trips and ongoing investigations.
A University graduation recital in Fraser Hall featured Miss Gertrude Cooper whose exceptional breadth control and stage presence impressed the audience despite nerves. Kansas City May 13 The Hyde trial opening speeches ran long as Brewster claimed the death penalty would injure the wife of the accused physician. Judge Latshaw ordered flowers removed and warned the court against newspaper framing of the case while Conkling defended his use of special prosecutors and attacked Hyde. A mob blocked court entrances delaying proceedings by about fifteen minutes.
In Topeka on May 13 Governor Stubbs urged J B Crowe to settle the Kansas miners strike by arbitration. He said wage demands are justified by higher living costs and urged swift, binding talks between coal operators and miners. He assured no violence will be tolerated and urged operators to take initiative.
State Veterinarian Dr Schoenleber visited Lawrence this morning to consult with Dr C B McClelland about conditions and testing cows for tuberculosis. He comes from Kansas State Agricultural College at Manhattan where the state funds a veterinarian and supports the movement to test cattle. D Mercer, state sanitary commissioner, will return to Lawrence next week. Fire at Livermore Falls causes 150000 in damage to town offices, post office, bank and merchants. Incubator baby kidnapping evidence finished in Holton. trial likely to go to jury this evening. Forty members of the Lawrence I O C F lodge will travel to Williams town this evening for work with the local lodge.
The funeral for George Currett Jr. will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o clock from the Warren Street Baptist Church.
