Douglas County near drought end eyed by monitor
The U S Drought Monitor predicts drought conditions shrinking in eastern Kansas over the next three months, with some far eastern areas already out. Douglas County remains in moderate drought as a cool wet spring boosts precipitation in Lawrence, which has recorded 5.67 inches since April 1 and 3.72 inches in April, the area's wettest month in a year. Meteorologist Shawn Byrne says the trend toward average or above rainfall should continue for several weeks.
