Minister of Old German Baptist finds life in faith and humor
John, a tall lean farmer with a gray beard and kind soul, served as a local minister in the Old German Baptist church. He believed in living by example, taught Hebrew meanings, and valued a life of self education, farming, and community. He died at 84 near his Douglas County birthplace. He married Ethel Kinzie in 1943 and later wed Anna Hirt in 2000 after a thoughtful courtship.
