Lawrence board to hear input on elementary boundary changes
Lawrence school board will hear public input on proposed elementary boundary changes at 7 p.m. in the Lawrence High School library. The plan shifts about 48 southwest Iowa 48th street area students and 31st street area students from Quail Run to Wakarusa Valley and 26 Lakecrest area students to Sunset Hill, with some transfers already having occurred. The board also reviews a junior high boundary change affecting a small west area with students moving to West Junior High and a Riverside sixth-graders transfer to Pinckney School.

A Lawrence Jayhawk Kennel Club show at Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds drew 996 entries. Charisma Oh So Picturesque failed to win best of breed, losing to his brother Picturesque Risque Bizness. Risque Bizness, owned by Lori Coffman, heads to Denver for Turvuren competition. Bo the Italian greyhound won puppy best of breed but trails in championship points.

County officials tour state meeting and juvenile center talks

GM recalls Fairfax workers as plant expands output in Kansas City
GM recalls about 200 laid off Fairfax workers and plans increased production from 50 to 60 cars per hour at the Kansas City plant starting Monday. The facility will run nine hours daily, with possible Saturday shifts through July 19 before a two week model changeover. About 2,200 employees are now expected as recalls continue following earlier layoffs.
