Two Outages Hit Lawrence As Westar Probes Cause
Westar Energy investigated two power outages in Lawrence affecting thousands of customers Monday. The first cut power to over 7,700 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. due to damage to a major line likely from lightning. The second outage, caused by a fallen tree, began about 12:30 p.m. and left more than 1,700 without power for about 20 minutes. Area businesses closed briefly. Lawrence Memorial Hospital remained staffed with no patient care disruption.
