Overcast skies will ease this afternoon with limited sunshine not lifting temperatures. High near 64 degrees as northwest winds reach 20 to 25 mph. Tonight drops to 42 with a continued brisk feel.
A national forecast shows showers and thunderstorms from the mid Atlantic to the Ohio Valley as a cold front drives storms from the Carolinas to Florida. Low pressure over the Great Lakes brings scattered showers, with rain turning to snow in northern Wisconsin and upper Michigan.
Lawrence Police arrested 26 year old Michele Lee Hiatt on suspicion of aggravated burglary and theft after a weekend entry into the LMH maternity ward employee lounge and theft of purses belonging to two LMH staff. Officers recovered some stolen items in a Maine Street parking lot. a second suspect remained at large.
In Topeka the Republican backed bill would raise campaign contribution limits to 1500 per senate race and 750 per house race while statewide limits stay at 2000. Democrats criticized the change but the Senate approved 28 to 11 after the House 75 to 45 passage. Governor Kathleen Sebelius said she will review the measure.
