State schools seek first tuition hike approval
A Legislative Council vote approved a plan to raise basic student fees at six state colleges and universities. If the Board of Regents backs it, the increase could bring in 3.5 to 4 million dollars annually and lift the share of general education costs paid by fees to about 25 percent from 20. Nonresident students would face larger increases. The measure excludes KU Medical Center and is paired with opposition to a state radio network for the Forestry Fish and Game Commission.
