Fire on Porch Sparks Small Blaze at Nu Sigma Nu
A cigarette discarded from an upstairs window ignited shingles on a porch at the Nu Sigma Nu fraternity house at 949 Indiana Street causing a small porch fire attended by the fire department on Saturday. The incident followed peculiar burial instructions by Wesley E. Firk who died in Oakland. He requested cremation and scattering of ashes over his late wife’s grave in town. An odd agricultural note claims one ounce of tomato seed yields about 1,500 ounces of fruit per generation, equating to 3,000,000 tons of tomatoes.
