Pittsburgh May 10 Scores of people were overcome by exhaust fumes in the Liberty tunnels linking the city with its South Hills amid a streetcar motormen and conductors strike. Rescue crews from the United States Bureau of Mines and the Unity Fire Department, equipped with oxygen helmets, worked to remove victims and many were sent to hospitals in serious condition. The tunnels, main entrance to the city from suburbs, were crowded, traffic tied up, and motorists unable to shut off motors. Hundreds of cars and buses stalled inside the tubes, causing widespread carbon poisoning signals as air lines sank. The car men seek wage increases from 67 to 74 cents per hour.

Christine Acquitted In Liquor Possession Trial
The district court jury found N. L. Christine not guilty of possessing intoxicating liquor on March 22 after about five hours of deliberation. Judge Hugh Means presided as the verdict was read at 4:55 p.m. yesterday. The city of Lawrence had also moved to drop the case against L Brooks for disturbance of peace.
