Legislature ends session without school funding plan
The Kansas Legislature wrapped up without an agreed school finance plan. Lawmakers rejected an $82 million increase funded by diverting highway funds, leaving districts like Lawrence disappointed. Senate and House split over highway transfers and bond impact, while productive measures passed include a wireless lifeline fee, life without parole option, bioscience funding, and accessible polling places. The session closes with May 27 for a ceremonial end.
