Retirement party for Lawrence sheriff captain Malson announced
Marilyn Malson, captain in the Douglas County sheriff's department, will retire after 26 years with a party from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday in the conference room on the second floor of the law enforcement center. Band director earns national honor for school program
West Junior High School band director Jack Brookshire received the John Philip Sousa Foundation Bandworld Legion of Honor award during the school's spring concert. 20-year SRS worker charged with theft
Barbara Gaines, 46, a Lawrence Kansas Rehabilitation Services employee, faces two felony theft counts one felony false writing and a misdemeanor theft charge. She was booked into Douglas County Jail then released on 3500 bond. Investigation by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation tied to incidents in 1989 1990. Gaines was a supervisor until last October and became a caseworker. Court appearance set for May 21.
