Connally Faces Tough Road to GOP Presidential Run
Washington AP reports former Texas governor John B. Connally, newly aligned with the Republican Party, must build credibility and alliances while fending off rivals such as Spiro Agnew and Charles Percy. He denounces Watergate but faces a politically damaging backdrop as he contemplates a 1976 bid. He met Nixon in Florida but did not accept a post, though a part time role remains possible.
