Naval planes take off in largest Pacific maneuvers toward Midway
Honolulu May 9 Forty six naval planes in several groups headed northwest over the Pacific bound for Midway Island. The fleet, led by the VP squadron, formed part of a vast operation including 353 warships and the greatest aircraft force ever sent to sea in the north Pacific. Departure secrecy was complete with observers kept outside Pearl Harbor gates. The mission aims and routes were not disclosed, with arrival at Midway expected by about 7 pm local time.

Baer Injured During Rehearsal in Asbury Park
