Postmaster General Calls End to Leases of Buildings
Washington May 1 84 Assistant Postmaster General Bartlett urged that every post office building should be owned by the government and the system of leasing scrapped He cited a planned 25 million dollar New York City lease for 20 years saying purchase would cost about 8 million and save millions by Congress appropriating funds for ownership instead of continuing leases The government now funds leases but lacks a purchase appropriation and Bartlett urged a business plan to acquire property rather than rent every year
