Colyer mulls CMS talks while defending KanCare stance

Kansas Lt Governor Colyer said last week’s adoption language allows continued negotiations with CMS on eligibility issues including work requirements for non disabled adults. He stressed no substantive changes without legislative approval and expects talks to proceed. Health advocates praised CMS decision to reject a three year lifetime cap citing risk to vulnerable Kansans and cancer patients. Colyer opposes expanding KanCare under ACA and anticipates another ACA repeal effort this year. He noted reviews of the recent spending bill and cited uncertainty over paying former KU Chancellor Gray-Little, deferring to the Board of Regents.
