Republicans Move to Trim Social Programs in Budget Plan
The House Budget Committee backed a plan to cut food aid health care and social services like Meals on Wheels to protect military spending. It would raise federal employee pension contributions and bar tax refunds for the $1000 per child credit for illegal immigrants, totaling over 300 billion in a decade. The Senate and Obama are unlikely to support it, but the vote signals a partisan critique in an election year.
