Senate votes to sustain veto on late term abortion bill

In Topeka the Kansas Senate failed to override Gov. Sebelius’s veto, 25-13, on a bill to tighten late term abortion rules. The measure would have forced physicians to report more data and opened avenues for lawsuits from patients, spouses, or guardians. Planned Parenthood praised the veto, while supporters argued for stronger oversight of late-term procedures tied to Dr. George Tiller. The vote ends the issue for the year as overrider moves require two thirds.
