Kansas state cash balance grows in 1946 fiscal year
Topeka May 8 The true cash balance of the Kansas general fund at the end of the first ten months of the 1946 fiscal year stood at 11 121 480 compared with 10 912 833 for the same period a year ago. Fee funds exclusive of unemployment compensation trust funds were up to 41 699 054 and unemployment compensation trust funds rose to 50 304 647. The state's only bonded indebtedness 9 250 000 in unmatured soldiers' compensation bonds was down a million dollars from the prior year.

Stokely Foods to Start Pea Pack in Kaw Valley Soon
A. Herbert Tuller of Stokely Foods reports pea canning will begin in about ten days to two weeks. The Kaw valley area has 1,055 acres under contract, up 150 acres from last year, with about 200 workers needed. New crops include Jima beans and tomatoes will be handled at Lawrence plant. Beets totaling 320 acres under contract will be canned when harvested, mostly near Topeka. This fall, Van Camp pork and beans will also be canned. Stokely-Van Camp merged four Roach Plant operations in Michigan, creating one of the nation’s largest canning groups.
