Bradley Leads Victorious Drive Into Bizerte and Tunis

General Eisenhower disclosed that Maj. Gen. Omar N. Bradley commanded the U S Second Corps advance into Bizerte after taking over from Lieut. Gen. Patton as operations shifted north on April 17. Ike praised allied coordination and vowed to pursue remaining German resistance on African soil.

University of Kansas to run regular men's dorms for summer

KU will operate nine properties as regular men's dormitories this summer to ease Lawrence housing strain from munitions factory workers. The move adds to existing scholarship dorms for self supporting students, with room also available for women in Corbin Hall and sorority houses.

Shell Attu Positions Bombarded By American Task Force

An American task force shelled Japanese positions on Attu island in a 26 minute dawn bombardment. Snow squalls did not impair visibility and an ammunition dump was hit and blown up. Eyewitnesses saw bursts 600 to 800 feet high. Destroyers and cruisers delivered many salvos to the target area.

Covey Named Principal of Huron High School

Basil R. Covey, Vinland rural high school principal for two years, is elected principal of Huron high school in Atchison county. He has five years with Vinland schools. Frieda Cowles will succeed Covey as high school principal. Other teachers include Irene Willis and Mrs Helen Sturdy. No vocational agriculture teacher yet.

Hale Receives 30 Day Jail Term In Liquor Case

Ottawa Kansas May 8 District Judge Hugh Means denied leniency to Sheriff George Hale and ordered 30 days in county jail for liquor possession. Earlier he overruled a new trial bid and upheld a 30 day sentence on one liquor charge plus fines totaling 35 dollars. Hale was convicted April 28, arrested February 17, and faces ouster proceedings in the supreme court.

Kansas University Opens Year-Round Training On Mt Oread
