Mural honors Hughes at East Lawrence school site
East Lawrence residents will help paint a 15-foot mural at New York Elementary, 936 New York St, honoring Hughes. The project ties to local landmarks including his youth home, an uncle and aunt’s limestone barn, nearby roads and river, with a quoted line on perseverance guiding students to lead the art. Donations earmarked for mural use ensure long term funding and student involvement through years.
