City pool system may cut operations due to lifeguard shortage
Lawrence must hire about 40 more lifeguards to fully staff indoor and outdoor pools for the May 27 start. Becky Childers says rising applications help, but 40 vacancies could force closing water slides or diving boards at times. Lifeguards start $9 per hour, head lifeguards $10.50, with free training offered to applicants.
