California imposes emergency drought use restrictions
California state water board approves mandatory urban water use cuts up to 36 percent with a 25 percent statewide target. The rules allow cities and districts to choose how much burden goes to commercial and industrial users while excluding most farms and recycled water. Failure to meet targets could bring fines up to 10000 dollars, as officials push to curb outdoor watering and ornamental landscaping amid a record Sierra Nevada snowpack drop and widespread groundwater depletion.
