Tornado Leaves Homes Shattered in Douglas County
Residents recall the moment the tornado struck their blocks in Douglas County. McKinley watched her upper story vanish in seconds while the basement and floor remained, a refrigerator tethered to the house with a beer can inside. Holmes narrowly avoided disaster as the tornado plowed through his 190 acre property, tearing trees and mangling structures but sparing his home. A nearby farmhouse lost an exterior wall where a 3 year old niece was sleeping moments before. Deputies blocked the road as Red Cross volunteers distributed water and food and began damage inventories.
