Jobless Rate at 13 Year Low in April

The nation’s unemployment rate fell to 5.4 percent in April as 606000 people found jobs, the Labor Department said. Unemployment dropped 0.2 point from March with gains concentrated among adult men, while adult women’s rate stayed at 4.8 percent. A separate payroll survey showed 175000 new jobs, led by factory work and export‑related industries, with hospital and business services adding 55000.

All Star dairy plant to close in Lawrence Kansas

KU Professor Charged With Threat at Dance Department

Journal-World Publishes Delivery Rate Increases

Effective Sunday the suggested home delivery rate for the Journal- World will be $6.50 for four weeks an increase of 4 percent from the present comparable rate of $6.25. The suggested delivery rate for motor route subscriptions will be $6.95 for a four-week period an increase from the present $6.70. Prices for mail subscriptions were readjusted recently following an increase in second-class postage rates.
