A flood from the Washita River after heavy rain swept the region near Foss Oklahoma on May 6. Six people died including Mrs Batterfield and granddaughter and others. Fifteen houses were destroyed as the Choctaw Railway bridge at Turkey Creek washed away and the line from Elk City to Foss was cut. The Turkey Creek bridge failed at 4 pm, the Washita crossing failed minutes later, and the train barely escaped before the bridge collapse. Weatherford received the stranded train after multiple washouts, and relief was sent from Oklahoma City and other points.
