Five Injured by May Windstorm Across Kansas
A May 8 windstorm battered northeastern Kansas injuring five people. John Monaghan suffered a crushed chest and facial cuts when a farm home northwest of Whiting collapsed from a tornado. His wife and son Carol were injured. Mrs. Monaghan was taken to Barton hospital as the two story house lost most of its first floor. The twister moved toward Mlewatha, damaging Lloyd Lente’s home and destroying the George Hamilton property with injuries to Mrs. Hamilton. In Atchison winds up to 30 miles per hour caused glass and roof damage and a man named Eldaner, age 23, received a cut from glass blown from a third story window. Roadways blocked by fallen trees and large hall stones fell east of the city.

CT3 Seven Marine Corps air transports were damaged at the Olathe naval air station by strong winds.
