Half Million Upgrade Planned for Leavenworth Barracks
Fort Leavenworth in Kansas plans more than 500000 dollars in improvements to the disciplinary barracks after an initial 300000 dollar appropriation. Construction to remodel and enlarge its facilities will begin soon with the War Department assigning one captain and five lieutenants to supervise funds and work, mostly labor from prisoners with civilian foremen. A government auto truck depot for about 800 workers is included in the plan. Reserve seed stocks remain scarce as Kansas farmers hold minimal wheat and corn reserves, with only 3.28 percent of the 1918 wheat crop and 8.7 percent of the 1919 corn crop still on farms.
