Historic tree at Crooked Creek burned near Meade county
A lone cottonwood six miles southwest of Meade burned, ending a 60 year link to Lawrence ory. The tree recalls a 1874 ambush near Crooked Creek where Captain Oliver Short and six men were killed. Harold C. Short, then 14, survived as the sole living member of the surveying party. Pearl Blankenhip’s kin and Colm Haver reside nearby in Meade County.
