KU hospital defends finances amid federal funding cuts
KU Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas says it can withstand Medicare cuts estimated at 23 to 25 million over five years as the Balanced Budget Act tightens funding for charity care and medical education. CFO Scott Glasrud notes staff reductions and expanded outpatient services bolster long term stability while seeking public assistance and private sponsorships for uninsured care. Jordan Cohen of the AAMC warns many teaching hospitals face red ink without repeal.
