Kansas University biologist Kelly Kindscher and doctoral student Alexandra Fraser report that the Santa Fe Wetlands near Lawrence meet the legal definition of wetlands after five years of planting and testing on a 17 acre site northeast of 35th and Haskell. They acknowledge the Santa Fe site cannot fully match the Baker Wetlands in ecological quality and stability, and discuss wetlands replacement policies tied to the South Lawrence Trafficway project and broader habitat protections.
