Eisenhower Urges Vigorous Campaign in Western States

President Eisenhower urged Republican leaders in Western states to analyze why GOP losses increased in November and to plan a vigorous comeback. Speaking by phone to 10 state gatherings in Salt Lake City he emphasized electing a Republican House and Senate in 1958 and aligning with party platform standards.

Eight-year-old Lawrence girl struck by car

An eight-year-old Lawrence girl identified as Corinne Marie Johnson was hit by a car near 1344 Mass St and taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Her condition was listed as good by hospital staff.

Docking Initiated Into Honorary Business Body

Governor George Docking was initiated into an honorary business fraternity at a Lawrence ceremony. Participants included W Keith Weltmer and Dr Harold Krough among KU and University of Wichita officials. Survived by wife, the 84 year old former Lawrence president died at Wall Hospital after a long illness.

Penal Board Again Engaged in Big Fight

Bitter clash erupted on the Kansas State Penal Board as Democrats and one Republican spar over parole policy. University Senior Named For London Drama Study

Kansas University senior Wan, a drama and journalism major, was selected from 150 auditionees as one of 10 to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London for two years. House Committee Rejects 50 Million Flood Insurance Funding

The House Appropriations Committee declined the Eisenhower administration’s 50 million dollar request for flood insurance funding.
