GOP group objects to Brownback tax plan in Kansas
Traditional Republicans for Common Sense, a 50-member GOP group, criticizes Gov. Brownback's tax cut, saying it would create budget holes, lead to cuts in schools roads and nursing home care, and raise local property taxes. Rochelle Chronister questions the cuts and impact on working families retirees and children. The plan collapses three income tax rates to 3 and 4.9 percent and phases out the non wage tax on about 200000 businesses, with projected deficits three to five years out. Brownback argues the cuts will boost the economy and jobs while Chronister notes Kansas already has low unemployment.
