Allen Defends RFC Loans As Probing Figures Cite Aid To Small Towns
Former Senator Henry J. Allen argued that the Reconstruction Finance Corporation distributed its 250 million dollar loan program to smaller communities and railroads to prevent larger bank failures. He cited data showing only seven percent went to banks in towns under 25,000 and emphasized a drop in weekly bank failures since RFC began operations. His remarks came as he traveled from Kansas City via Wichita to Washington. The same day Standard Oil of New Jersey directors declared a 25 cent extra dividend plus a quarterly 25 cent dividend payable June 15 to stockholders of record May.
