Senate vote extends session's abortion standoff
The Kansas Senate opened the wrap-up session by debating abortion and defeated an effort to ban most late-term abortions. Senate Bill 234 faced opposition from lawmakers who argued the measure went too far, while a conference committee weighs differences with the House. Governor Graves backed changes from Kansans for Life to drop the third-trimester ban and permit life-threatening deformity abortions.
